GASPESIAN DAY – JOURNÉE DE LA GASPÉSIE – GESPE’GEWA’GI NA’GWEG

3 June 2025

GASPESIAN DAY  –   JOURNÉE DE LA GASPÉSIE – GESPE’GEWA’GI NA’GWEG Together, let’s celebrate our Gaspésie! Maria, June 3, 2025 – Thursday, June 5 marks the 19th edition of Gaspesian Day – Journée de la Gaspésie  –  Gespe’gewa’gi Na’gweg. Vivre en Gaspésie and its partners invite everyone to celebrate the day in their own way. “Over the years, Gaspesian Day has become an opportunity for people to express their regional pride and sense of belonging. It’s a chance to get together, no matter where you live, and see just how much Gaspésie means to so many people,” says Mariline Lamy-Poirier, marketing communications coordinator for the Stratégie Vivre en Gaspésie. Get involved in the festivities For those who want to get together in a festive event, there will be celebrations organised throughout Gaspésie. These gatherings, organised in collaboration with Place aux jeunes,  Service d’accueil des nouveaux arrivants (SANA) and partners from the English-speaking communities ; VISION Gaspé-Percé-Now, Gaspé Literacy Council, CASA, and Douglastown community center, are ideal for honouring Gaspesian Day. They’re a great way to get together, share regional pride and celebrate the things that unite us. This year, Vivre en Gaspésie is offering a unique colouring book with numbered drawings as a family activity. “We were very fortunate to partner with Mi’gmaq artist Jessica Jerome to create a colouring book with illustrations representing the Seven sacred teachings of the Mi’gmaq culture,” adds Mariline Lamy-Poirier. The book features seven animals and a description of what they represent, as well as an explanatory document to learn more about these sacred teachings. “This project came about through the bonds we’ve been nurturing with the community of Gesgapegiag for two years now. We’re delighted to be working together for the first time to enhance our collective approach to promoting culture and traditional knowledge,” adds Danik O’Connor, Stratégie manager. A blue wave Once again, this year, the public is invited to help Gaspésie shine by building a big blue wave. By wearing blue on June 5, everyone helps to create a powerful movement of regional pride. “Every Gaspesian Day, we’re always impressed to see how many people answer the call. It’s wonderful to see this blue wave spreading throughout the region and beyond, and on social medias,” says Danik O’Connor, Stratégie Vivre en Gaspésie manager. “We’re inviting people to share their photo on social medias by tagging us @livingingaspesie, so we can find their photos and share them,” adds Mariline Lamy-Poirier. Join in the fun! Gaspesian Day is an invitation to celebrate your attachment to the region in your own way. Whether you’re wearing blue, taking part in a festive event, sharing a photo or a souvenir, there’s no limit to the ways you can celebrate Gaspésie. To inspire the population, festive tools are also available on the Vivre en Gaspésie website: activity guides, a quiz and a 100% Gaspesian playlist are waiting to add a touch of Gaspésie to your day. On June 5, wherever you are, celebrate Gaspésie!
