The list of activities for newcomers is long and diverse, and above all, there are things happening everywhere throughout Gaspésie.
There’s a reason why Gaspésie stands out and is becoming even more attractive. It’s because we do everything we can to welcome those who’ve decided to make the region their new home.
Gaspesians have a solid reputation, and no one doubts their warm welcome! And because we want you to stay for good, we make sure everything is set to welcome you properly!
Community spirit, solidarity and mutual aid are part of our DNA in Gaspésie. Here, you will never be out of options. If you ever have a flat tire on the side of the road, there will be lots of people stopping to give you a hand.
You’ve no doubt got the picture that it’s in our nature to do everything to make you feel welcome. The region offers activities for newcomers to help you create a network of contacts, forge links and also discover your new territory.
By taking part in activities organised for newcomers, you can meet people who, like you, have recently chosen to settle in the region, but also people who have been here for a long time. All this with the sole purpose of making you feel at home in the Gaspé.
Whether you choose to settle in the Upper Gaspé, Chaleur Bay, near Percé Rock or at the tip of the Gaspé Peninsula, there are activities organised nearby to help you make connections and build a network.

Moving to Gaspésie can mean a lot of changes. Here is a list of things to know as you ponder your decision.
It’s true, in Gaspésie, the pace of life is different. Maybe it’s because of the surf, but it seems that like everything is more fluid. We like to live differently; above all, we like to take our time. And since we live in a postcard setting, we often want to stop and enjoy it. After a while, you too will count the distance in time rather than in kilometres. And it won’t be long before you yourself become the embodiment of your words when you tell newcomers, “In Gaspésie, we don’t think about what time it is, but we have time.”
It is impossible to go out in a public place without people greeting you and asking how you are. Even when walking down the street, Gaspesians wish each other a good day and smile sincerely. As an added bonus, you’ll probably be asked, “Who’s your family?” while you wait in line at the grocery shop. Or they’ll try to figure out your hometown from your last name. In Gaspésie, you’re not a number. If we’re so interested in you and your origins, it is because we’re really happy to get to know you.
This winter, you may come home after a few days away and your lane will have been cleared of snow by your neighbour from three doors over. Your waste bins will probably be placed at the curb when you forget about them. And what about the 10 people who stop to lend a hand if you get a flat tire while on the road? It’s just normal, in Gaspésie, to help each other out and be part of a community.
If you forget your cross-country skis at a trailhead, chances are you’ll find them in the same place a week later. Even if you leave your keys in your car one night, it’ll still be parked in your driveway the next morning. In Gaspésie, people trust each other. Here, children play outside worry-free. Because their parents know all too well that they’re safe.
When you open your curtains in the morning, you might see a mother deer and her baby helping themselves to apples from your tree. When the sea starts to ice up, you can watch seals sunning themselves on the rocks. Everywhere you go, nature will remind you of its presence. And that’s just fine. In Gaspésie, we like to live in harmony with the animals.
Do you want to contemplate the sea and mountains daily? Do you dream of tranquility, but also a vibrant social life? Does nature, vast open spaces, and the outdoors speak to you? It’s all happening in Gaspésie. You could honestly love it here. Plus, the people here are smiling and very welcoming.
For the past 4 years, the Gaspésie region has stood out with a positive net migration balance. It’s a sign that more and more of you, whether young couples or families, are choosing to settle in the region.
By the way, Gaspésie ranked first among the regions where people are happiest in Quebec, according to a recent Léger survey. That’s no small feat!
